The Anastasiou brewery

In Athens · half a day

Beer at the Anastasiou brewery

Award-winning Greek craft beer, drunk in the room where it is made. Short, and unusually complete.

What the day is

The brewhouse, then five glasses

The pub and the brewery share one space, so the brewing happens in front of you while you drink.

Fotis Anastasiou brews it and welcomes you himself. He started in 2010 with The Local Pub, an English-Irish pub next door, and the brewery grew out of it — which is why you can watch the process live from your table rather than through glass on a tour.

You work through the range: Lager and Pilsner, then IPA, APA and Saison, and the Wild Ale — brewed with wild yeasts and fruit, and the one that tends to surprise people.

Five beers in the tasting, then a full glass of whichever you liked most, with a platter of Greek sausages from different parts of the country.

A well-organized visit to the Anastasiou brewery (production workshop and shop) which included a tour of the brewery workshop where we saw how the beer is produced. Then we had a tasting of the different types of beer and finally, along with the beer tasting, we enjoyed a variety of meats in the shop's garden which made the whole experience more complete. Overall, a very pleasant experience where we enjoyed different types and flavors of beer in a special environment, all carefully prepared by Maria.
